"William Christopher Handy was known as the "Father of the Blues" When he moved to Memphis in 1909 from Alabama, after touring through Mississippi, he setteled in a two-room shotgun house on Jeanette Place in South Memphis. In the mid-1980s, the home was moved to Beale Street in downtown Memphis, Tennessee and restored where it serves as an interpretive center operated by Heritage Tours.

The W.C. Handy Home and Museum features photos, memorabilia and artifacts and even the desk at which W.C. Handy wrote many of his most famous songs, like "The Memphis Blues," "St. Louis Blues," and "Beale Street Blues."" (visit link)
