This rare piece is located at the Clay Historical Park in Clay, NY.
It is in rough shape, but the intent is still clear. The roller would be drawn along by a team of horses to flatten down fresh snowfall on the dirt roads of the day to make then passable for other vehicles, people, animals etc.
The roller predates the early snow ploughs of the early 20th century.
