This airport is located in the middle of Diu island, about 8 km from the town. It's a small airport currently with a daily connection to Mumbai. The only way to get there is by taxi or tuk-tuk. Or private car, of course.
It was built in 1954, before the Indian invasion to this Portuguese territory, which took place in 1961.
Transportes Aéreos da Índia Portuguesa (TAIP) started flying to Diu on 16 August 1955. It linked Diu with Goa and Daman (also Portuguese territories in the region) and Karachi. It was bombed by the Indian air force bombed during the 1961 invasion.
