Okanagan Falls Heritage & Museum opened in 1984, after the Bassett House was moved to it current location. The museum is filled filled with artefacts and paraphernalia germane to the period.
Within the museum just as you enter is this General Electric Monitor Top Refrigerator which is still in nice condition. The area was roped off and was unable to actually look inside. It mostly likely has a tiny freezer only large enough to hold two ice cube trays.
During the 1920s, reliable, affordable electric refrigeration became more popularized as homes gained access to electric power. The old wooden iceboxes were being replaced with stylish, low maintenance, enameled porcelain electric refrigerators. General Electric's distinctive "Monitor Top" refrigerator was a big seller in the late 1920s and early 1930s.
