The library is immediately north of the former North Gower township hall. The present library building was originally a garage for local fire services. In 1891, the Mechanic’s Institute Library was in that old township hall next door. That was North Gower’s first library.
The present library building was first used as the public library in 1978. When the library opened, it was the North Gower branch of the Rideau Public Library. Rideau township municipal services were eventually taken over by the city of Ottawa.
