The VIA Rail station in Montmagny is a Heritage Canada property. Originally built for the Intercolonial Railway of Canada in 1881 to replace an earlier Grand Truck Railway depot. It came under the auspices of Canadian National Railways when the CNR acquired ICR in 1919.
In 1986 the station received a refit under the direction of VIA Rail.
Currently, the depot is an on-demand stop for VIA Rail's Ocean Limited, which travels the south shore from Montreal to Halifax.
