"It gained university status in 1992 and its present name in 2001. The main campus is in the heart of the city of Lincoln alongside the Brayford Pool. There are satellite campuses across Lincolnshire in Riseholme and Holbeach and graduation ceremonies take place in Lincoln Cathedral."

Brayford pool is a natural lake on the River Witham. It used to be a site dominated by industrial uses, but these declined by the middle of the 20th Century.
The building campus of the university started a regeneration of the area around Brayford Pool, and now the south bank is dominated by the university, whilst the northern bank has a number of hotels, restaurants and bars. There is also a marina on the south bank, next to the university.
