Drawing inspiration from the French Beaux-Arts and Arts and Crafts architectural styles, the magnificent Mount Royal Chalet was designed by Quebec architect Aristide Beaugrand-Champagne and built as part of the City of Montréal’s make-work project during the Great Depression in 1931-32. Its walls feature large-scale paintings depicting selected moments of Montréal history by renowned artists such as Marc-Aurèle Fortin, Paul-Émile Borduas and Edwin H. Holgate. These historic works of art, as well as the large fireplace and chandeliers, contribute to the Chalet's rustic décor.
The Chalet houses a gift shop, restaurant, as well as an information kiosk operated by the City of Montréal.
