This fort was originally built by the Portuguese in 1535 and subsquently enlarged and reinforced along the centuries.

This is a massive fort, which can be visited (free of charge) by the public. A detailed visit will require several hours to complete. There are significant points of interest: bastions, artillery displays, old churches, walls and much more.
The fort view substantial action along its almost 500 years. The latest battle took place in 1961 when India invaded the Portuguese territories of Goa, Damão and Diu. In this fort there was a garrison of 350 Portuguese soldiers. During the shooting there were losses in both sides.
