This bridge is the first railroad bridge to the west of Lincoln railway station. After the train leaves the station there are level crossings with barriers across High Street and Brayford Wharf East and then reaches this bridge to cross the river.
When the train approaches the bridge barriers are lowered across Brayford Wharf East and the stop traffic on the road. There is a high footbridge at right angles to the road to allows pedestrians to cross over the railway without waiting for the train to pass.
