"The September 14, 1961 was the date chosen for Francisco Franco to inaugurate the Maritime Station, work on which had begun several years earlier. On the façade of this rationalist building, you can see several sculptural ensembles made by Camilo Nogueira. Allusions to America are present in this work, not in vain, this station was considered for a long time the gateway to the Atlantic, the exit door for the thousands of emigrants who were forced to seek a better future on the other side of the ocean. Nogueira's sculptures are not the only decorative element displayed in this building. Inside, there are murals made by Manuel Prego, dedicated to work on land and at sea."

These friezes are located on both sides of the main entrance of the Capitanía Marítima or Estación Marítima building.
They show details of the discovery of America. In one of them Christopher Columbus and crew, with natives; and in the other the problems aboard a ship.
