Edna's obituary, from Buchanan Funeral Service:

100 years young. Edna Earle Willoughby Porter was born October 16, 1917 in Fannin County, Texas at home. She died February 22. 2018 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma at home, where she lived with her daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Marc Charney.

Grandma Edna, as the neighborhood kids called her, was caring, compassionate, friendly and most of all nurturing. Edna rarely met a stranger. She was an avid reader of romance mysteries and the daily newspaper. She enjoyed watching sports, especially tennis, and following the Thunder. She quilted, did needle point, and made afghans for families and friends. Her owl and sea shell collection were displayed for all to see. Edna had a “green thumb” and brought many a plant back from the brink. She will be remembered for her fried chicken, skillet gravy and made from scratch pies, cakes, candy, and biscuits. She introduced cheese grits to the family and they have become a holiday staple. In recent years she was known for her Christmas candy, pea salad and blackberry wine cake.

She was the last surviving child of HD (Homer Delos) and Braz (Brazoria Ellen DeShane) Willoughby. She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years JV (Julius Vinson) Porter, Jr.

In addition to her daughter and husband, Edna is survived by her son and wife, Mike (Michael) and Paula Porter; Grandson, Ryan Porter; Grandson and wife, Clint and Leslie Porter; Great grandson Grant Porter and Great granddaughter Wrenna Porter; Granddaughter Rachel Porter; Granddaughter Rebecca Porter; bonus granddaughter Beth and her family; Grandson and wife, Josiah and Lauren Charney; Great granddaughters Lillian and Eleanor Charney; Grandson and wife, Jacob Charney and Stephanie Smith; multiple nieces and nephews; and her best friend of over 60 years, Betty Conley from Midland, Texas.

The family thanks the caregivers and doctors, who cared for Edna over the past 8 years, including her granddaughter-in-law Lauren Charney, Myrtle Tetteh, Estella Baker and especially Kristen Adams, who made herself available 24/7. Thanks to Bill (William Schnitz, MD) Edna’s PCP. A special thank you to Starla Barlett, Edna’s hospice nurse who also helped JV on his journey at the end. There are very few coincidences, as there is a master plan.
