In 2016, Poste Italiane issued its first postage stamps denominated by delivery zone and weight rather than in euros. The set of eight stamps featured various town squares (piazza in Italian) from all across Italy. This one shows the Piazza della Repubblica in Rome.
The Piazza della Repubblica is located on the Via Nazionale, one of the main streets in Rome, and is close to the main railway terminal. The porticos surrounding the southwest side of the circle and the central Fountain of the Naiads are largely the product of the late nineteenth century. Both can be seen on the stamp.
