This statue of Johnny Bench is located at the entrance to the
Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati, Ohio. It shows the Hall of Fame catcher coming out of his crouch and attempting to throw a runner out that is attempting to steal second base. Johnny's offensive career statistics are impressive for his era but he is potentially more well know for his defensive prowess behind the plate having been on the National League All-Star team 12 times as well as winner of the Gold Glove for best defensive catcher 10 times.
The statue was unveiled: 9/17/2011 at the ball park. The sculptor was Tom Tsuchiya using bronze and shows Johnny In Situ. -
Sporting News. There is a plaque attached to the statue that reads:
