Mount Calvary Cemetery is also known as Calvary Cemetery and is in Fergus County, Montana. Lewistown is the county seat with a population of approximately 6,000 residents. First established around the 1880 gold rush. What is most interesting is Lewistown is the geographic center of Montana.
Mount Calvary Cemetery was established in 1895 as dated on the sign, however was unable to located any interments dating prior to 1905 as the earlier graves maybe unmarked.
Mount Calvary Cemetery is approximately 4.5 acres in size and well maintained. The cemetery is divided more or less in three sections with the newest toward the back of the cemetery with room for expansion. Surrounded by farmland there are trees along the roadways.
There are currently 2,827 known interments with some very old headstones, however the newer burials are a more traditional granite grave markers. There are a few family mausoleums in the older section.
The Burke mausoleum is a typical size, however it is constructed of massive cut stones which is somewhat more unusual as seen in this cemetery, and others nearby cemeteries. and BURKE in inscribed across the top with a cross on the top. There are two names mounted to the front of the tomb.
