Mount Calvary Cemetery is also known as Calvary Cemetery and is in Fergus County, Montana. Lewistown is the county seat with a population of approximately 6,000 residents. First established around the 1880 gold rush. What is most interesting is Lewistown is the geographic center of Montana.
Mount Calvary Cemetery was established in 1895 as dated on the sign, however was unable to located any interments dating prior to 1905 as the earlier graves maybe unmarked.
Mount Calvary Cemetery is approximately 4.5 acres in size and well maintained. The cemetery is divided more or less in three sections with the newest toward the back of the cemetery with room for expansion. Surrounded by farmland there are trees along the roadways.
There are currently 2,825 known interments with some very old headstones, however the newer burials are a more traditional granite grave markers. There are a few family mausoleums in the older section. Overall an interesting cemetery to visit.
One of the mausoleums is the Brooks tomb dated 1912. This is a fairly average sized possibly for four to six interments. The individuals are not named on the mausoleum other than the family name. There is a cross on the top inscribed IHS. (The Christogram IHS is a monogram symbolizing Jesus Christ)
