The church with a tower in Romanesque style was built at the beginning of the 12th century. It was originally intended as a basilica, but the plans were changed during the construction. After a fire broke out in 1335 and destroyed a large part of the church, construction of a new church in the Gothic style was started in 1338, preserving the remains of the layout of the original tower. It was decided to build a three-aisle hall church with two side chapels attached to the south aisle and two to the north aisle. The north chapels were completed in 1419, the south chapel later, but in the 15th century. Before the completion of the north chapels, a chancel was built, completed after 1338.
In the first half of the 14th century a new tower was completed, so that the church already had two towers. However, the older Romanesque tower was irretrievably destroyed by a new fire in 1422.
The chancel was completed (with a net vault over it) in 1422-1437 and the vault over the aisles was completed in 1442. A two-storey sacristy was built at the turn of the 14th century and in the first half of the 15th century. The main building work was completed in the first half of the 16th century. In the 1760s, a music choir was built at the west end of the hall and the church as it stands today.
