Braehead Golf Club lies just to the west of the town of Alloa in Scotland's smallest county, Clackmannanshire. A club was formed in the summer of 1891 with land being inspected in the grounds of Arnsbrae House by Musselburgh professional Robert Tait who declared it suitable for golf. The Alloa Golf Club was formed officially on July 8th 1891 and a pavilion would be built in 1907.

In 1923 after a request from the landowner, the course moved west to the farm at Braehead and on October 16th 1926, the new nine holes were opened. However a decline in members during the 1930s due to the distance in having to travel from Alloa, saw a new Alloa Golf Club being built at Schawpark in 1935-36.

A new eighteen holes were proposed by the end of the 1930s, but the war years scuppered this move and the course was actually reduced in size during the war effort.

It wasn't until 1964 that a full eighteen hole course was built due to land being acquired to the north and east. A new clubhouse was also built at this time.

Financial difficulties struck the club during the 1970s, and £150,000 was raised, most coming from neighbouring clubs, to save the club and course from closure. In 1996 the current clubhouse was built.

The course runs over undulating ground, particularly towards the turn, out at the eastern end. Saplings planted in 1995 have matured and transformed what was an open course, into a tree-lined setting. The par is 69 (70 off the back tees), with four short holes and one par 5, the 12th, with the tee on the highest point of the course, looking west up the Forth Valley towards the distant mountains, with Stirling Castle and the Wallace Monument to the left.
