This pillar lies low at only ten metres above sea level in the fertile plain of the Carse of Gowrie, running north of the Firth of Tay between the cities of Dundee and Perth. It can be found on open farmland near the farm of Balgay which lies a mile to the south-west of the village of Inchture. The pillar is worn around the edges, and despite the low elevation, views are extensive across the plain.
STEEPNESS: None on flat land.
TERRAIN: Tarmacked farm access road, with only a few yards of faint track leading to the pillar.
ACCESSIBILITY: The pillar lies only a few yards to the south of the road leading westwards to the farm from the Inchture road. It is also possible from the A90 to the north-west, but this leads through the farm.
NAVIGATION: Easily found along the road from the east just before the first of the farm cottages. The pillar lies south along a few yards of track between open fields almost underneath the electricity pylons.
DANGER: Very little except possible livestock in the fields.
