The 150th anniversary of Canada, also known as the 150th anniversary of Confederation and promoted by the Canadian government as Canada 150, occurred in 2017 as Canada marked the sesquicentennial of Canadian Confederation.

150th Anniversary of Canada was a year long celebration with communities throughout Canada creating projects and placing commemorations from coast to coast.

"The year was filled with activities that focused on engaging and inspiring youth; celebrating our diversity and encouraging inclusion; establishing a spirit of reconciliation with Indigenous peoples; and discovering Canada’s natural beauty and strengthening environmental awareness."

Lion's Park is one of the larger parks in Oliver featuring, tall stately trees, picnic tables, a large skate park, KVR walking trails, playground and a dog park. The Kiwanis Club of Oliver have provided exercise equipment at several locations along the park's walking paths.

The commemorative plaque indicates that this grove of trees were planted at this location and throughout the community in honor of the 150th anniversary of Canada by Tree Canada and the support of the Government of Canada. The plaque is mounted on a large stone and is within the newly created dog park.
