The first historical mention of Slavicín dates back to 1141, but its beginnings are traced back to 1256 when the first written reference about it appeared.

Olomouc Bishop Bruno played a significant role in the colonization of the surrounding region. During the Czech-Hungarian wars, the fiefdom passed to the Lords of Podmanín, and in 1485, the first mention of a stone fortress appeared, although it was built on the foundations of the original, still wooden, fortress. In the early 16th century, the owners of the estate changed hands until Catherine Mindszentyová from 1583 to 1605 and later the Palasthy family from 1607 to 1645 carried out modifications to the fortress, which was then referred to as a castle.

Late Baroque modifications were made around the mid-18th century by the Podstatští family from Prusínovice. After 1845, the then owners, the Lords of Lederer-Tattnern, transformed the appearance of the castle with late Neoclassical modifications. Modern interiors were added to the castle for practical use in the mid-20th century.

From 1912 to 1948, the castle was owned by the Wichterl family. It was returned to them as part of the restitution process. The castle underwent restoration in 1999-2000. Today, the castle mainly serves hospitality purposes.

The castle is surrounded by an extensive park, which was transformed into an English-style park in the 19th century.
