In the ancient Roman city of Florentia this was the point where the ancient Roman theater was located.

The Palazzo Vecchio (translated into Spanish, Old Palace) is located in Piazza della Signoria, in Florence, Italy. It houses offices of the City Council (Comune di Firenze) although the main rooms are open to the public as a museum where you can see murals and paintings by famous artists of the Florentine school such as Domenico Ghirlandaio, Bronzino and Giorgio Vasari, among others.

Originally called Palazzo dei Priori or Palagio Novo, the name was changed to "Palace of the Signoria", the main body of the Florentine Republic, in the 15th century. It later became known as the "Doge's Palace" when Cosimo I de' Medici established his residence there in 1540. Later, in 1565, it would begin to be called Palazzo Vecchio as Cosimo moved to the Pitti Palace.

The first construction is attributed to Arnolfo di Cambio, who started it in 1299 by incorporating the old Foraboschi tower into the façade. After Arnolfo's death in 1302, the palace was completed by other artists in 1314. The exterior shape of the building is that of a parallelepiped, and on the main façade is the Torre de Arnolfo, one of the emblems of the city. . In 1400 the tower and the inner garden had to be rebuilt, as they were in danger of collapsing.

Among its most important rooms, the Hall of the Five Hundred stands out, whose wall decoration was entrusted to Leonardo da Vinci (The Battle of Anghiari) and Michelangelo (The Battle of Cascina). Unfortunately, none of them was finished, and the walls were covered by other frescoes in later decoration by Giorgio Vasari.
