The information panel reads:
"250 m south of here was the Lingen 2 well.
After three months of drilling at a depth of 906 m to 994 m, it struck oil in the Valendis and Wealden strata on February 3, 1942.
This marked the beginning of the Emsland's rise to become the largest German Erdol area.
By May 7, 1961, the well had produced a total of 3,600 t of pure oil and was plugged in November 1961 due to the exhaustion of the inflows."
