Trench art wooden cross from WWI in St Peter's church, Finsthwaite.

The Wooden Cross and associated Communion Vessels were made "On Active Service" in a mobile workshop by the 1037 G.H.Q. Reserve M.T Company, for their use at Treviso, N. Italy on Christmas Day, 1918. They were also used at the Advanced Operating Centre at Croatia and at an Aerodrome near Thiene.

The Cross is made from a plank of the Pontoon Bridge built to carry the troops across the River Piave (visit link) for the final attack on the Italian front which led to the Armistice in 1918.
