"The seat of the Court of Merchandise (also called della Mercatanzia) is a historic building in Florence, located in Piazza della Signoria behind the equestrian statue of Cosimo I. Today this palace houses the Gucci Museum.

It was built in 1359 and restored in 1905 . This court was composed of six foreign lawyers and six city councillors, chosen from among the principal guilds, to try cases between Florentine merchants, anywhere in the world, and commercial disputes between members of the guilds of Florentine guilds.

In antiquity, there was a portico in front of the façade, on which Taddeo Gaddi had painted The Truth sticking its tongue out of Lies, and Sandro Botticelli and Piero Pollaiolo had painted a series of Virtues, now housed in a room of the Uffizi. . On the façade are written the words: Omnis sapientia a Domino Deo est. Above is an image of the Redeemer carved in stone and above all the shields of the guilds of the major and minor guilds.

The Court owned the central niche in via de' Calzaiuoli di Orsanmichele, where it had placed Andrea del Verrocchio's group of statues of the Incredulity of Saint Thomas.

The palace then became the headquarters of the Comitium Agrícola.

Since September 26, 2011, the palace has housed the Gucci Museum, inaugurated on the occasion of the ninetieth anniversary of the Florentine brand Gucci."
