Nuyaka was a Creek Indian town near Okmulgee, and was populated mainly by full-blood Creeks who did not want to adopt the ways of white civilization. They clashed with the officially-recognized Creek Indian government in the "Green Peach" war, with little bloodshed. Little is left of the town other than these two cemeteries. "New" Nuyaka Cemetery is on the east side of the road, just a bit south of here. This cemetery has an odd layout; the fenced area is set back from both roads, but there are grave markers outside the fence as well. The cemetery is active, with several burials in the last few years.
