Nuyaka was a Creek Indian town near Okmulgee, and was populated mainly by full-blood Creeks who did not want to adopt the ways of white civilization. They clashed with the officially-recognized Creek Indian government in the "Green Peach" war, with little bloodshed. Little is left of the town other than the two cemeteries here. Nuyaka Cemetery (sometimes called "New" Nuyaka Cemetery) is on the west side of a gravel road. "New" Nuyaka Cemetery is on the west side of the road, just a bit north of here. The cemetery is active, with burials in the last few years.
