This large ornate Castellated Gothic Revival hotel and pub has a pub sign that shows a stylised line drawing of a head on view of a sheep.

The town of Richmond was historically associated with the wool trade.
In towns like this 'The Fleece' is a common pub name and refers to the wool that has been sheared from a sheep, ready for sale. Conventionally these pub signs normally show a sheep hung from its back ready to be sheared.
This sign is slightly unusual in that it is using the sheep itself to represent the fleece.
A well as this board pub sign which is the most noticeable pub sign there is also a some terracotta tiles above the entrance with the hotel name and the traditional picture used to represent the fleece.
