The Exploration Center and Aquarium is at the twelve-sided Easton Beach Rotunda in Newport, Rhode Island. Though the dodecagon building is not too big, there is a lot packed in the space to see at this interactive marine science center run by Save the Bay, an organization launched in 1970 to protect and preserve Narragansett Bay. Many aquatic species from Narragansett Bay and other local waters are on display. Three touch tanks to explore include crabs, skates, and small sharks. Spread among other tanks are Buffalo Trunkfish, Scamp Grouper, Striped Bass, an octopus, Moon Jellyfish, Northern Pipefish, and Northern Diamondback Terrapins. The staff members are enthusiastic, friendly, and knowledgeable -- quick to interact, share fish facts, and encourage visitors, too.
