"El Museo Nacional Romano (Museo Nazionale Romano en italiano) es un conjunto de museos en Roma (Italia), dividido en varios lugares de la ciudad. Fue fundado en 1889 e inaugurado en 1890, durante el Risorgimento, con el propósito de coleccionar antigüedades que van desde el siglo V a. C. al siglo iii d. C.
La primera colección se formó con las colecciones arqueológicas del Museo Kircheriano y los numerosos nuevos descubrimientos en Roma durante el planeamiento de la ciudad después de que se convirtiera en la nueva capital del nuevo Reino de Italia. Inicialmente se pretendía que se mostrara en un «Museo Tiberino» (que nunca se llevó a cabo), pero en 1901 el Estado otorgó el beneficio a la institución de la Villa Ludovisi y la importante colección nacional de esculturas antiguas.
Su base se estableció en el claustro del siglo xvi construido por Miguel Ángel en parte de las termas de Diocleciano, que aún son su base principal. Esta adaptación de los edificios a un nuevo propósito comenzó para la Exposición de 1911 y se acabó en la década de 1930. En los años 1990, en una transformación radical, las colecciones del museo se dividieron en cuatro lugares diferentes.
En 1981, excavando en un lugar céntrico abandonado en el Campo de Marte entre las iglesias de Santa Caterina dei Funari y San Stanislao dei Polacchi, Daniel Manacorda y su equipo descubrieron el pórtico cuádruple con columnas del Teatro de Lucio Cornelio Balbo, el cercano statio annonae y evidencias de una ocupación del lugar tardía, en época medieval. Estas se presentan en esta rama, inaugurada en el año 2001, que alberga los restos arqueológicos y hallazgos de esa excavación (incluyendo un arco de estuco del pórtico)."

"The National Roman Museum (Museo Nazionale Romano in Italian) is a group of museums in Rome (Italy), divided into several places in the city. It was founded in 1889 and inaugurated in 1890, during the Risorgimento, with the purpose of collecting antiquities ranging from the 5th century BC. C. to the 3rd century AD. c.
The first collection was formed from the archaeological collections of the Museo Kircheriano and the numerous new discoveries in Rome during the planning of the city after it became the new capital of the new Kingdom of Italy. Initially it was intended to be displayed in a "Tiberino Museum" (which never took place), but in 1901 the State granted the benefit to the institution of the Villa Ludovisi and the important national collection of ancient sculptures.
Its base was established in the 16th century cloister built by Michelangelo in part of the Baths of Diocletian, which is still its main base. This adaptation of the buildings to a new purpose began for the 1911 Exposition and ended in the 1930s. In the 1990s, in a radical transformation, the museum's collections were divided into four different locations.
In 1981, excavating an abandoned central site on the Campo de Mars between the churches of Santa Caterina dei Funari and San Stanislao dei Polacchi, Daniel Manacorda and his team discovered the quadruple colonnaded portico of the Theater of Lucio Cornelio Balbo, the nearby statio annonae and evidence of a late occupation of the place, in medieval times. These are presented in this branch, inaugurated in 2001, which houses the archaeological remains and findings from that excavation (including a stucco arch from the portico)."
