Location of Baptismal Font: 7 McMenamy Road, All Saints Catholic Church, St. Peters
Built: 1856

"The Baptismal Font - Baptism is the "door" to our Church, in the sense we become members of the Church, the assembly of believers through baptism. This can be especially evident when the font or baptismal pool is actually located near the door of the church itself. For the Easter Vigil and for the celebration of the sacrament of Baptism our font is moved more closely into the midst of the assembly in order to remind us that those being baptized are being "born again" into the family or community of our parish. The Easter or Paschal Candle, a symbol of the resurrection of Jesus and a promise of a new life, normally stands near the baptismal font, though during Easter Season is placed near the ambo since the proclamation of our new life is Christ is so characteristic of the scriptures proclaimed during this time of year." ~ History of the Church

The description above does describe the use, but does not do much for describing the font itself.

This font is made of marble, and us mounted on wheels. The base is octagonal, frieze and corner-round markings and a row of gold beads upon which stand four granite columns and upon them is mounted the bowl itself. Within the bowl in the baptismal pool. The pool, is a smoot stone set inside the top octagonal bowl of the font. This bowl is decorated with more frieze art work and quarter-round designs.
