The Pesant barn was built for Senator William Owens in 1907. The latter had established a model farm in Montebello for breeding Clydesdale horses and Ayrshire cows. He received the Silver Medal of Agricultural Merit for the barn in 1908. In 1917, the Owens family sold the 500-acre farm to Joseph Pesant. He operated the farm until 1953, when he divided it between his sons Rolland and Rosario. Since 1959, the farm where the barn is located has been the property of Gérard Pesant, son of Rosario. The barn is cited as a heritage building on May 16, 2016 by the municipality of Montebello.
