El ciborio creado por Arnolfo di Cambio para la iglesia de Santa Cecilia se conserva en su totalidad. Adopta la composición estructural del realizado para San Pablo Extramuros pero las formas góticas son más simples, dotando al conjunto de mayor equilibrio y perfeccionando el conjunto. Las esculturas se relacionan con mayor claridad con el espacio, adquiriendo mayor autonomía y monumentalidad.
Un ciborio es un elemento arquitectónico consistente en un baldaquín que corona un altar o tabernáculo, especialmente en los templos cristianos antiguos. Se apoya generalmente en cuatro columnas unidas entre sí mediante arcos y cubiertos por un techo plano o con forma de pequeña cúpula.
The ciborium created by Arnolfo di Cambio for the church of Santa Cecilia is preserved in its entirety. It adopts the structural composition of the one made for Saint Paul Outside the Walls, but the Gothic forms are simpler, giving the whole more balance and perfecting the whole. The sculptures are more clearly related to space, acquiring greater autonomy and monumentality.
A ciborium is an architectural element consisting of a canopy that crowns an altar or tabernacle, especially in ancient Christian temples. It is generally supported by four columns joined together by arches and covered by a flat roof or in the shape of a small dome.
