Otter Creek (which is really a sizeable river) joins with the Arkansas River at this location. There is a parking area and a trail to an overlook on the east side of the river where you can view this confluence. Access is from a paved road if you come in from the Kansas side; the road from the Oklahoma side might be impassible after rain. In the original waymark images Otter Creek is in the foreground and the Arkansas River is in the background.

The Arkansas River traverses the states of Colorado, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Arkansas. The river's source basin lies in Colorado, specifically the Arkansas River Valley. The headwaters derive from the snowpack in the Sawatch and Mosquito mountain ranges. It flows east into Kansas and finally through Oklahoma and Arkansas, where it meets the Mississippi River.

While less well known, Otter Creek is a major waterway in east central Kansas. It originates west of Climax at Fall River and winds west and south through Piedmont (where it is part of a recreational area) and down to the Arkansas River.
