Morgan's Ohio Raid
June 12, 1863
Crossing Cumberland River near Rome, Morgan's Cavalry Division bivouacked about 3 miles SW of here. Near here, about sundown, Lt. Col. W.W. Ward, with a detail from the 9th Tennessee Cavalry, captured a Federal wagon train with mail, property and sutlers stores; most of the guard and train personnel decamped. Next morning the division left Tennessee via Gainsboro and Livingston.
