Sundail at the catholic basilika St. Vitus of Ellwangen

At the southern side of St. Vitus Basilika of Ellwangen you will find this wallmounted sundail. As to expect at such a large church, this painted sundail is quite large and not hard to find.
It is not known who was the artist and when it was mounted there. At the base of the painting there is the number of 1634 (MDCXXXIV) if I read right.

There is also a text: sicut umbra fugit vita (lat). It means: The life runs like a shadow
