Ben Vrackie, the speckled mountain, mainly due to its appearance on its south face of grass, heather and rock, is a Scottish Corbett, mountain of between 2,500 and 3,000 feet high. Its summit is 2757 feet, 841 metres, rising above the Perthshire resort town of Pitlochry to the north. It is usually climbed from this southern side, despite it being steepest on this side above Loch à Choire, with the northern flank falling away to remote moorland.

The summit is topped by stone cairn indicator, gifted to Pitlochry Town Council in 1949 by the Leys School of Cambridge, who were evacuated to Pitlochry during the Second World War. An Ordnance Survey triangulation pillar lies a few feet to the west of the indicator. The summit offers one of the best views in the Highlands, with the lowlands to the south, and the higher mountains to the north.

STEEPNESS: A moderate gradient until Loch à Choire, then a steep section from here to the summit, eased by taking a route to the right of the steep south face on well constructed steps.

TERRAIN: A well constructed path all the way almost to the summit makes this one of the easier mountains in the Highlands.

ACCESSIBILITY: Three miles from Moulin to the south. A similar distance from Killiecrankie to the west, both paths meeting up at the loch.

NAVIGATION: The path makes the ascent relatively easy in mist.

DANGER: Care needed on the final steep section of steps, especially on descent.

Altitude in Feet: 2757
