This statue of Saint John the Apostle is located at Roselawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery on Route 322 in Meadville, Pennsylvania. The statue depicts Saint John holding a scroll and a quill, symbols of his writings included in the New Testament, and an eagle by his side, a symbol of him being one of the four Evangelists.
Saint John was one of Christ's twelve Apostles and the author of the fourth Gospel included in the New Testament. He was the "Beloved Disciple" who sat next to Christ at the Last Supper and stood by the cross during the crucifixion of Christ. It is believed that he outlived all of the other Apostles and was the only one not to die a martyr's death. Four books of the New Testament are attributed to him, including a Gospel, three Epistles, and the Apocalypse (Revelation). His feast day is celebrated on December 27th.
