NL Bij de Werenfriedkerk in Westervoort zag ik een buurtkastje staan. Er zat alleen een pak maandverband in op dat moment. Een goed initiatief vind ik, zo voorkom je voedselverspilling en ik kan me voorstellen dat mensen dit soort liefdadigheid goed kunnen gebruiken.

Bij de protestantse Werenfriedkerk in Westervoort staat sinds kort (2019) een buurtkastje. Wie spullen wil delen of wat nodig heeft, kan terecht bij het openbare voorraadkastje. Niet bedoeld voor rookwaar, alcoholische dranken of eten dat kan bederven.

De fles wasverzachter was vorige week meteen weg. Maandagmiddag staan er onder meer twee blikjes kreeftensoep in het witte kastje bij de Werenfriedkerk aan de Westervoortse Dorpstraat. Maar onder meer ook een pak noodles, een flesje saus en een blikje zwarte bonen.

Wie daar behoefte aan heeft, kan spullen uit het openbare keukenkastje pakken. Wie wat over heeft, kan dat in het kastje bij de kerk achter laten. 'Liever delen dan verspillen’ is het motto.

Nederland telt inmiddels zo'n dertig buurtkastjes. Het idee is overgewaaid uit de Verenigde Staten, waar het als Little Free Pantry bekend staat. In Nederland werd het buurtkastje gelanceerd door René Verhoogt uit Purmerend. Hij richtte de stichting SoGoed op. ,,Daar kunnen de kastjes worden besteld”, zegt Alewijnse. ,,Ze worden gemaakt door mensen met een psychiatrisch verleden. Zo help je elkaar ook op die manier.”
ENG I saw a neighborhood box at the Werenfriedkerk in Westervoort. There was only a pack of sanitary napkins in it at the time. I think it's a good initiative, it prevents food waste and I can imagine that people could use this kind of charity.

At the Protestant Werenfriedkerk in Westervoort, a neighborhood box has recently been installed (2019). Anyone who wants to share things or needs something can go to the public pantry. Not intended for smoking, alcoholic beverages, or perishable foods.

The bottle of fabric softener was immediately gone last week. On Monday afternoon there will be two cans of lobster soup in the white cupboard at the Werenfriedkerk on Westervoortse Dorpstraat. But also a pack of noodles, a bottle of sauce and a can of black beans.

Those who need it can take things from the public kitchen cupboard. Anyone who has something left can leave it in the box at the church. 'Sharing rather than wasting' is the motto.

The Netherlands now has about thirty neighborhood cabinets. The idea came over from the United States, where it is known as Little Free Pantry. In the Netherlands, the neighborhood box was launched by René Hoogte from Purmerend. He founded the SoGoed foundation. “The cabinets can be ordered there,” says Alewijnse. “They are made by people with a psychiatric past. That way you also help each other.”
