While the building was possibly built in 1958 (by the year on the side of the flat roof), it appears a little more modern than that. As the Club was formed in November 1958. Along with providing a 'home' for the volunteer surf life savers, the Club also offers absolute beachfront dining and entertainment to both members and visitors alike.
"On 28 November 1958, a public meeting was held in the Council Chambers at Coolangatta for the purpose of gaining support and publicity for the formation of a Surf Life Saving Club to patrol this section of Coolangatta Beach. Following this meeting, the club first became affiliated with Point Danger Branch and Surf Life Saving in February 1959, however, active members proved difficult to recruit and the first official patrol commenced over the Easter period. During the latter portion of the season, the Coolangatta Surf Life Saving Club was formed and affiliated with the Branch. The Club has some great photos of the early days in Coolangatta hanging on its walls."
