Built between the 12th and 13th centuries and considered the oldest bridge in Catalonia, Pont Vell -- or "Old Bridge" -- spans El Cardener, a river which passes along the southwest boundary of Manresa, the capital of the Comarca of Bages, located in the geographical center of Catalonia, Spain. The medieval stone structure has a pointed apex that rises several meters from each end. It is about 100 meters (350 feet) long and the eight semicircular arches stand an average height of about 25 meters (80 feet) above the river and wide swath of limestone rock, the highest and most modern (from Mid Eocene, about 37-38 million years) of the geological formation Santa Maria of marine origin. The central part of the bridge was destroyed in 1939 during the Spanish Civil War and rebuilt between 1960 and 1962. (1, 2, 3)

[CAT] Construït entre els segles XII i XIII i considerat el pont més antic de Catalunya, el Pont Vell travessa El Cardener, un riu que passa pel límit sud-oest de Manresa, capital de la Comarca del Bages, situat. al centre geogràfic de Catalunya, Espanya. L'estructura medieval de pedra té un vèrtex punxegut que s'aixeca diversos metres de cada extrem. Té uns 100 metres (350 peus) de llarg i els vuit arcs de mig punt s'aixequen a una alçada mitjana d'uns 25 metres (80 peus) sobre el riu i una àmplia franja de roca calcària, la més alta i moderna (de l'Eocè mitjà, uns 37-37). 38 milions d'anys) de la formació geològica Santa Maria d'origen marí. La part central del pont va ser destruïda l'any 1939 durant la Guerra Civil espanyola i reconstruïda entre 1960 i 1962. (1, 2, 3)
