"John and Mary Zalud moved to Porteville in 1890 with their children, Annie, Edward and Pearle. The Zalud family moved to their newly built home in 1891. During that time, Mr. Zalud opened a saloon in downtown Porterville, and by 1944 owned over 3000 acres of land. The Zalud House offers a glimpse into the past and it is one of the few houses of that era that are not undergone any remolding. The Zalud house is one of the few museums in nation that is furnished entirely with the original owners possessions, including personal art and collections from world trave/ When Pearle Zalud passed away in 1970, she bequeathed the house and 15 acres to the city of Porterville to build a park in memory of Edward. The Zalud house museum opened on May 1, 1977 offering guided tours in memory of the family and early history of Porterville pioneers."
