Taken from Wikipedia, "The Superior Court of California, County of Riverside, also known as the Riverside County Superior Court, is the branch of the California superior courts with jurisdiction over Riverside County."

The plaque says, "The Roman Imperial front and vaulted main hall of the courthouse have been widely pictured since completion in 1904. Designed by Chicago trained architect, Franklin Pierce Burnham, it is a close copy of the Petit Palais or Fine Arts Building of the 1900 Paris Exposition. The county from its beginning in 1893 until 1904 maintained headquarters in the ornate Arlington Hotel, later called Riverside Hotel, University Avenue at Lime."

The plaque says, "From its founding in 1870 until 1893, the community of Riverside was a part of San Bernardino County. Riverside citizens, in 1887 and in 1891 indicated their interest in moving the county seat by helping to defeat bond issues for the construction of a new county courthouse in San Bernardino. A bond issue for courthouse construction in young Riverside County succeeded, however, resulting in this magnificent example of Beaux Arts architecture."
