[FR] L'église Saint-Sébastien de Villedieu-sur-Indre fut construite au début du 11e siècle et bâtie dans le style roman.
Ce n'est qu'en 1835 que le Conseil de Fabrique, groupe des personnes laïques et religieuses qui administrait les fonds nécessaires à la construction et à l'entretien des édifices et mobilier religieux, lança une souscription afin d'orner l'église d'un plafond et de voûtes.
Les dégradations causées par les émeutiers des Jacqueries de 1847 ont grandement compromis l'avancement des chantiers de renovation.
En 1880, le Conseil de Fabrique obtint du Conseil municipal l'approbation de principe du projet d'achèvement de ces travaux et de la construction d'un clocher.
Pour ce faire il devait obtenir de la municipalité la cession du terrain nécessaire. Le Conseil municipal mit des conditions et ne reçut aucune réponse.
Les travaux débutèrent néanmoins en mai 1881 et provoquèrent l'intervention Indignée du maire, Monsieur Apollon Firbach, qui somma de faire cesser le chantier et de tout remettre en l'état. Le Conseil de Fabrique n'en fit rien et continua les travaux que le maire et le Conseil municipal tentèrent d'interrompre par toutes voies de droit ». Cela fut sans effet et les travaux se terminèrent début 1882.
[EN] Saint-Sébastien church in Villedieu-sur-Indre was built in the early 11th century in the Romanesque style.
It wasn't until 1835 that the Conseil de Fabrique, a group of lay and religious people who administered the funds needed to build and maintain religious buildings and furnishings, launched a subscription to decorate the church with a ceiling and vaults.
Damage caused by rioters during the Jacqueries of 1847 greatly compromised progress on the renovation project.
In 1880, the Fabrique Council obtained approval in principle from the Town Council for the project to complete the work and build a bell tower.
To do so, it had to obtain the necessary land transfer from the municipality. The Town Council set conditions and received no response.
Work nevertheless began in May 1881, prompting the indignant intervention of the mayor, Monsieur Apollon Firbach, who demanded that the work be stopped and everything restored to its original state. The Fabrique Council did nothing of the sort, and continued the work, which the mayor and municipal council tried to stop by all legal means. But to no avail, the work was completed in early 1882.
