The Archiepiscopal Palace is located in close proximity to Prague Castle, on the left side when facing the entrance gate (visit link) of Prague Castle. This palace represents one of the most significant late Baroque buildings in Prague. It was built in the 16th century and has undergone several reconstructions, including one by J. B. Mathey.

The magnificent residence of the Prague archbishops was constructed in the 1560s by the first post-Hussite Prague Archbishop, Antonín Brus of Mohelnice, through the reconstruction of the Renaissance Gryspek Palace. The three-story palace occupies an irregular elongated plot and consists of four wings of the main building, which are centered around a courtyard.

The palace was expanded in 1599-1600 and baroquely transformed in 1676 according to the design by J. B. Mathey. Its current form, with a Rococo facade, is the work of J. J. Wirch from 1764 to 1765. The sculptural decoration was provided by I. F. Platzer.
