The original 15th-century house, known as "U Cerných dverí" or "U Kamenné Panny Marie," was purchased in the 19th century by a bookseller named Alexandr Štorch. He carried out extensive renovations, resulting in the current appearance of the house with its unmistakable plasterwork. The plasterwork was created by the Czech painter Ladislav Novák, based on a design by the painter Mikoláš Aleš.
The focal point of the facade is an equestrian statue of Saint Wenceslas, accompanied by the coat of arms with the St. Wenceslas eagle, the Czech lion emblem, and floral ornaments. A golden inscription commemorates the past, referring to Štorch's bookstore, and there is a painting depicting publisher Štorch and his son at work, serving as a reminder of their presence.
