St. James' Episcopal Church was established in 1857 and the church at was built in the Gothic Revival style in 1859. The random laid brownstone block building has entrances framed by a Gothic arches on the west and south sides of a tower the southwest corner. Above the entrance is a Gothic lancet window and a louvered belfry opening framed within a Gothic arch.
The front of the main block has two Gothic lancet windows between a pair of stone columns. Above is a circular stained glass window. On the north side a slanted roof covers a projection which has a single Gothic window.
The north side is five bays wide with tall windows inset within Gothic arched at each bay. The south side has four brick projecting gables each with with Gothic windows framed by brownstone Gothic arches. At the back of the church there are additions constructed in 1965 and in 1978.
