With 24 named waterfalls within its boundaries, Ricketts Glen State Park, northwest of Wilkes-Barre, PA, is a veritable Mecca for waterfall enthusiasts. The waterfalls occur along two branches of Kitchen Creek with several of them occurring after the two branches merge into one. Ganoga Falls is the fourth waterfall you encounter as you move down the Ganoga Glen Branch of Kitchen Creek.
There is a well-defined trail system which takes you by all the falls and there are several places to park your car. I’ve provided coordinates for the parking area closest to the falls. When I visited this site in the spring, there was substantial ground water seeping out onto the trail making for slippery conditions.
Back in the 1930s, there was talk of making this whole area a National Park, but thanks to the Great Depression, it never came to fruition. Ricketts Glen State Park can get fairly crowded, especially on the weekends even though it’s a little off the beaten path.
