Sezimovo Ústí is located at the confluence of the Lužnice River and Kozský Creek. According to legend, the town was founded by Sezima, the illegitimate son of Vítek of Prcice. The first written mentions of the town can be traced back to the first half of the 13th century.
One of the highlights in the city is the unusual sundial. The sundial called Time Patrolman stand out with their original and uncommon design.
A vertical indicator (gnomon) made of metal is part of the horizontal sundial located at an elevation of 421.34 meters above sea level. The sundial displays the time corresponding to the local meridian position at N 49°22.67', E 14°42.03'. In its right hand, the sculpture holds an unconventional pointer (nodus) – a granite sphere with a diameter of 20 cm, representing a model of the Earth. The sundial has been indicating true solar time since 2005 and, in addition to the time, it depicts calendar information such as solstices and equinoxes. It is worth noting that the dial of the sundial, marked on the cobblestone pavement and complemented by small granite blocks and forged discs, is one of the largest dials in the Czech Republic, measuring 20×21 meters. The sculpture holds the indicator at a height of 390 cm.
