The Lone Sailor is a bronze sculpture created by Stanley Bleifeld as a tribute to all those who served at sea. It is located at Wisconsin Square, next to the Battleship USS Wisconsin. Behind the Lone Sailor is 8 plaques (more can be added) that highlight Norfolk-based ships and submarines that have met with tragedy along with one for the Pentagon on 9/11. The plaques are: USS Cole, USS Forrestal, USS Iowa, USS Liberty, USS Nimitz, USS Newport News, USS Scorpion, and The Pentagon.

The sculpture is a replica of The Lone Sailor statue installed at the United States Navy Memorial in Washington, D.C. (IAS record DC000126). The sculpture is one of many The Lone Sailor statues installed around the country as part of the Statue Outreach Program of the United States Navy Memorial. The statue is dedicated to all of the Sea Services - Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, and Merchant Marine. The sculpture was funded and installed by the "Friends of the United States Navy Memorial."
